Gabi Garcia Interview
Q) New Year’s Eve will be your MMA debut, how do you feel about that?
I felt like I needed a new challenge after winning my 9th world title in Jiu Jitsu, so event there were no offers on the table, I decided to trim down and started practicing MMA. Eventually there were some offers made, but none of them were appealing enough for me to kick off my MMA career. That is when I got the offer from RIZIN at the perfect timing. Japan is the land where martial arts was born and where my favorite event PRIDE was born. It’s a dream come true. If I were to be asked to make my MMA debut anywhere else in the world but Japan, the answer will be NO. Me making my MMA debut in the land where Bushido spirit was born, is a gift from god.
Q) What kind of fight will you want to show the Japanese fans?
This will be the first time in a long time where a big MMA event will be held on NYE so I believe that not only Japanese fans, but fans from all over the world are excited. I was one of the fans who grew up watching the big shows, and I don’t think any promotion can beat what they have done. That is why I have decided to put everything I have into this fight, I have moved to America and started training camp in a new environment. I am going to prepare 100% for this fight. The Japanese fans are very polite and respect the fighters. They understand and appreciate MMA. So I am going to practice hard and put on a great show for them, and show how strong woman can be.
Q) What are your expectations from making your debut?
I can only think step by step, so right now I am only focused on my fight on NYE. I feel responsible in making this event successful, so I need to put on a great performance. I have a multi fight contract with RIZIN so I will come fight in Japan next year. My current goal is to become an exciting fighter and be accepted by the Japanese fans.
Q) Message to the fans.
I promise I will put on a great show, so please have faith in me and the event and wait until the day comes. I will give all I have, I want you to see a female fighter who has made here dream come true standing in the ring on NYE.
